The effort to understand Istanbul’s urban anatomy began with the Venice Architecture Biennial, which featured our series, “Modalities of the Spontaneous”, and has become a long-term research topic for us. We tried to see Istanbul as a layer that grows and stratifies under the influence of property, infrastructure and topography, beyond the traditional linear history narrative that we know. From these surveys, we have developed many exhibitions, structures and building associations. One of these is Istanbul City Museum.
